Heritage Park in Inver Grove Heights, Minn., brings the history of a pioneer-era village to life through a playground filled with imaginative details, inclusive play and a few surprises around every corner. Even the layout pays tribute to the past, with the playground arranged like a wagon wheel and an entryway inspired by train tracks—a nod to the transportation that helped shape the community.

Custom play structures designed to represent a pioneer village transform history into hands-on adventure. A PlayBooster® structure takes the form of a one-room schoolhouse, while a town gathering space features graphic artwork depicting a typewriter and books. A brick-inspired fire station and custom train climbers invite children to imagine life in an earlier era, with a smaller train structure designed especially for ages 2 to 5. DigiFuse® signs throughout the playground highlight the important role trains played in the area’s history.

The centerpiece is a dramatic custom climber inspired by a raised wooden suspension bridge. Below, a wavy rope climber evokes a rushing river winding through the canyon, while signs marking 1894 and 2010 recognize important dates in the community’s story.

Inclusive play is woven throughout the space, with a Friendship® Swing, We-Go-Swing®, We-Saw™, ZipKrooz® track ride and wheelchair-accessible We-Go-Round® offering opportunities for movement and connection. A Sensory Tunnel creates a kaleidoscope-like retreat as sunlight filters through its colorful panels, while a Cozy Dome® offers both climbing adventure and a quiet place to pause. Rhapsody® Outdoor Musical Instruments add another layer of sensory exploration for children of all ages.

SkyWays® shade structures, including a large central C-shaped canopy, provide welcome relief on sunny days. Nearby, the Aquatix® splash pad extends the adventure with refreshing water play, making Heritage Park a place where community history, imagination and play come together.
