Summerwood Elementary

At Summerwood Elementary in Houston, Tex., recess feels like game day. This inclusive playground puts sports front and center, transforming oversized athletic equipment, stadium details and plenty of opportunities for movement into an imaginative play experience for every child.

The fully ramped design leads to a 16-foot Super Netplex® tower and a tall PlayBooster® structure, each decked out with flags and scoreboards that create the excitement of a stadium. Slides, climbers and other play events give children plenty of ways to choose their own route through the action, while custom lettering spelling S-P-O-R-T-S is incorporated directly into the fun.

The sports theme continues with a custom football-shaped climber, tennis racket and basketball-net rope climbing features. Travel across the ramps to the ticket booth and concession stand for more game-day fun. Each part of the design invites children to interact with familiar sports in unexpected ways—climbing through, around and over equipment made larger than life.

A five-bay swing set offers another way to get moving, with multiple swing seat options providing choices for different abilities and play preferences. With engaging and safe surfacing under the playspace, Summerwood Elementary proves that when everyone can get in the game, recess is more fun for all.
