Dedicated to the iconic runner, Jesse Owens, this playground reflects the strength of the human spirit. Encircled by a running track and featuring a custom sneaker climbing wall, the park highlights the theme of track running. Colored in bright shades of blue, the playground includes panels for sensory play and inclusive ramps that are accessible for children with mobility devices. SkyWays® shade sails provide protection from the sun, while an inclusive Rollerslide, a twisty slide and a swing set offer fun motion play experiences. A net play Disc Net™ Climber and a SwiggleKnots™ Bridge are options for climbing with the flexibility of cables.

A neglected park gets new life

Jesse Owens Park in Lake Balboa, California had sat neglected for years. Full of trash and graffiti – it was a place that no one enjoyed and community members avoided. But thanks to collaboration between neighbors, city leaders and the Lake Balboa City Council, it’s been given a new life, and stands as a testament to the power of community.

Neighbors become friends

Resident Katie Cronin made it her mission to clean up the park, and within weeks she had about a hundred signatures on a petition to make it happen. “We met in the park as strangers who lived among one another and that day we became neighbors... and neighbors became friends… and friends formed groups like the park project” said Cronin at the grand opening of the reimagined Jesse Owens Park.

Inspired by an iconic athlete

The park is not only a testament to community, but it’s a dedication to the inspirational achievements of the iconic athlete, Jesse Owens. Featuring imagery of the famous runner, such as a headshot panel of his smiling face and two climbing walls that show him running, the playground is an inspiration to the children who play there, urging them to cultivate their strengths and follow their dreams. Encircled by a running track and decorated with a DigiFuse® sneaker climbing wall, the park highlights the theme of track running.

Inclusive play and learning opportunities
