San Pedro Creek Culture Park

As explorers of the San Pedro Creek Culture Park walk under the canopy of these SkyWays® shade sails, images gradually come into view. On the underside of the shade structure is a three-part art installation depicting herons in different formations. The center panel features an abstract view of birds flying in the shape of Ruby City -- a contemporary art museum in San Antonio -- while the outer two panels feature detailed, life-like representations of the graceful birds. The name of the art piece, A Place of Origins, points to the original name that the Aztecs gave their homeland, “The Place of Herons.” San Pedro Creek was once the lifeblood of historic San Antonio, and the newly revitalized San Pedro Creek Culture Park recognizes this valuable history with art installations, native landscaping and walking paths.
