Dyckman Rest Playground at Highbridge Park

Tucked between Manhattan’s busy streets, Dyckman Rest Playground at Highbridge Park transforms a slender, leaf-shaped parcel of land into a vibrant urban oasis for rest, refreshment, and play. Shaded by trees and inspired by the natural world, this playground proves that even in the heart of the city, children and families can find a space to climb, slide, and explore among the leaves.

The design celebrates nature in every detail. Leaf-motif roofs crown the PlayBooster® playstructures, while climbers twist like vines and branches — from the Corkscrew Climber and Canyon Climber to the whimsical LolliLadder™. Sensory panels tucked into leafy posts encourage children to touch, see, and explore textures. A custom stainless-steel slide glides down the park’s natural slope like a shimmering creek, while various rope climbing elements extend the forest theme with their springy tree-branch quality. Tired explorers can find calm in the Cozy Dome®, a den-like retreat perfect for quiet moments.

Built for inclusivity, the playground offers extensive ramping, accessible surfacing, and sensory-rich experiences that welcome children of all abilities, along with caregivers and multigenerational visitors. With its earthy surfacing, “pond-like” blue spray area, and leafy canopy effect, Dyckman Rest Playground turns a compact city site into a lush retreat where nature and play thrive together.
