Albert Whitted Park

Local history takes center stage in this innovative playground situated right outside a public-use airport in St. Petersburg, Florida. This city is considered the birthplace of commercial aviation, and Albert Whitted, a native, was one of the very first naval aviators. At this playground, kids ages 2 to 12 can imagine themselves flying off to parts unknown in a plane constructed from custom Permalene® panels and the unique positioning of equipment. Takeoff begins in the custom cockpit, featuring a realistic steering wheel, intricate control panel and talk-tube communication with the control tower. During each mission, children can clamber up climbers, across the decks and down the slides that descend from the plane’s tail. Custom signage and walkways that resemble runways round out the expressive theme.
