Providing play experiences for everyone
Fun for all and all for fun! Landscape Structures has always been committed to providing inclusive play equipment, so that children of all abilities can enjoy the fun. Now we have taken that commitment to the next step. We are fully engaged in creating commercial playgrounds and play structures that are far beyond being simply accessible, to playgrounds that are universally inclusive.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) provides equal access features in publicly-used facilities, including playground equipment. Recently the ADA revised its guidelines for accessible play areas, adopting new minimum requirements for elevated and ground-level play activities, as well as surfacing.
Long before the ADA guidelines were defined, however, Landscape Structures designed a wide array of activities for children of all abilities:
- Our interactive play panels, installed at the ground level of your playground create fun while helping children learn
- The Sway Fun® Glider is the first wheelchair-accessible glider that meets all safety standards
- Our TuffTurf® surfacing provides a smooth, protective playground surface for wheelchairs, and features transition edgers to allow easier transition to an adjacent surface
- Our Transfer decks and shallow steps improve access for children with mobility impairments who are not limited to wheelchair access, while ramps allow children using wheelchairs to join in the fun
We've published information on accessibility requirements, which you can obtain from your local Landscape Structures playground consultant. You can also browse our Inclusive Play resource area to get more insight for taking inclusive playgrounds to a higher level.
Additionally, the latest information on the development of specific access requirements for playgrounds is available at the U.S. Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board website at www.access-board.gov.
