In an effort to be green at work, in June, the Landscape Structures Sustainability Team conducted an analysis of its landfill-bound waste stream to determine if the contents of the company dumpsters were, in fact, filled with garbage. Dubbed Dumpster Dive 2010, the event consisted of six team members rolling up their sleeves, donning gloves and culling through 1,500+ pounds of waste. Along the way, they extracted those items that should have been part of the company’s recycling programs: aluminum cans, plastic bottles, recyclable paper and cardboard, foam scrim, wood scraps and Permalene plastic. What they found might surprise you.
