The Cornelia Elementary School in Edina, Minnesota, will soon be the recipient of an
eco-friendly playground. The materials for the new recreation area will be provided by Landscape Structures, according to the Edina Patch.
The current playground at the school is 17-years-old and may soon become hazardous because of its condition. School staff and community members raised approximately $120,000 to help build a new playground, and they expect to receive an additional $60,000 in the near future.
Landscape Structures specializes in environmentally sound
playgrounds. The company is based about 20 miles away from the school, which will decrease the amount of carbon emissions needed to ship the materials, the news source reports.
The structure will encourage
inclusive play and will be wheelchair-
accessible. The surface will also be easily navigable by those who use walking aids. Much of the structure will be made of recycled materials.
Parents who would like to see a playground that is accessible for children of all needs built in their own community may want to ask friends, neighbors and local organizations for help raising funds, according to FamilyEducation.com.
