Regular trips to outdoor playgrounds can help children stay active and healthy, greatly improving their lifestyle. Some time spent on playground equipment can help keep your son or daughter healthy as they run around and enjoy natural play. After being at home or in school for a majority of the day, children need something to switch up their schedule so they are not bored.
"They would have just been stuck at home. I don't feel right for them to just stay in the house. It's not a way to live, " said Rustina Garza, a mother of three, to San Antonio Express News.
Garza is appreciative that her district keeps a part of the school playground open to the public even after children go home in the afternoon or on the weekends. Across the country about 30 percent of school districts keep their facilities open to the general public so children can continue to enjoy outdoor play once classes have been dismissed.
Children especially like having playgrounds in their neighborhood as it gives them a chance to socialize with friends in a safe and fun environment.
"It's quiet here sometimes and it's spacey. I especially like being outside with friends. We'll just hang out here, come out and play on the slides and stuff," said Gabriella Suarez, a middle school student. "It's nice to get outside and be here. I come a lot."
