School Playgrounds

The holidays make for a change in routine for many school-aged children. In addition to having as much as a month off from school, many students are getting released early on certain days and having late starts on others.

Students from the Chula Accelerated Elementary School in Chillcothe, Missouri, recently got a look at their new exercise and play equipment as fitness professionals taught them how to use the new materials, The Constitution-Tribune reports.

Rocky Creek Elementary School in Pascagoula, Mississippi, recently partnered with Project Fit America and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi in an effort to get kids in the school moving and learning about the importance of being healthy, The Mississippi Press reports.

Rain or shine, students at Campbell Elementary School in Muskegon, Michigan, take part in a daily half-mile walk or run at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day, The Muskegon Chronicle reports.

As children continue to have more requirements put on their plates - testing well, doing after school activities and more - it's no wonder they're having a harder time squeezing in physical activity.
