Commercial playground manufacturer Landscape Structures recently announced its newest plans for making the safest and most enjoyable
playground equipment possible.
The company shared that it will begin using PebbleFlex®, a "one-of-a-kind" surfacing system. The material is made of spherical aliphatic polyurethane pebbles that work to absorb falls better while kids jump and climb on
playgrounds. The product will also last longer than other options - the company says it is more UV stable than any other surfaces in the industry right now, meaning the surface won't get damaged by the sun.
Aside from being durable, the material is also safer than traditional surfaces like pavement and wood chips. Tests show that the material protects children from falls of up to 12 feet and meets all
safety and
accessibility requirements.
Many standard
playground surfaces come in only a few colors, but PebbleFlex will be available in five standard hues and an additional 15 custom colors depending on what consumers want. According to Landscape Structures, the colors give
schools, parks and private customers the freedom to match their surface to their surroundings or even to add in a graphic with the school's mascot to make playgrounds more personalized.
