A new initiative launched by CBS Atlanta and Peachtree TV is aimed at helping Georgia's kids get healthy, CBS Atlanta reports.
The idea for the program, dubbed Fit Kids, Fit Families, came about after the state was recently ranked number two in the in the nation for the number of childhood obesity cases.
According to the news outlet, the new campaign entails telecasting informative messages about
healthy kids and the importance of exercise and eating right on all of the CBS and Peachtree TV platforms. There will be healthy segments during CBS Atlanta newscasts as well as a listing of local outlets for families to get on the right track in terms of health.
"We are at a crisis level with the health of our children in the state of Georgia," Kirk Black, senior vice president and general manager of Meredith Local Media Group, told the publication. "Helping to raise awareness of the childhood obesity issue, providing real-world solutions and answers and ultimately making our kids healthier are the goals of this important campaign. We're excited to be teaming up with some of the best and brightest in the field to improve the quality of life for our young people and their families."
Parents in Georgia and around the country can ensure their kids get healthy by providing them with nutritious, natural foods and helping them get in the recommended 60 minutes of daily activity. Youngsters can break a sweat riding bikes, using
commercial playground equipment or going for family walks.
