In an attempt to foster a generation of
healthy kids, former NFL player Eddie Kennison recently visited a Des Moines, Iowa, elementary school to teach them about exercise and eating right, Radio Iowa reports.
Kennison was on hand as part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 campaign, which brings together NFL players and elementary
schools to try and educate students on the importance of staying healthy in a fun way.
"The thing that I found out to work best for my body after a workout is chocolate milk," Kennison told the crowd. "Once you go through a tough workout, I encourage you guys to drink chocolate milk because it has more of the antioxidants and natural fuel you need to put in your body…better than a lot of the other drinks that are out there."
Aside from these helpful tips, Iowa Governor Terry Branstad also spoke during the event and voiced his commitment to getting Iowa citizens of all ages in shape.
"We aim to be the healthiest state in the nation within the next five years," Branstad told the students. "We are working together to make our state healthier every day and the effects are being felt by Iowans of all ages."
Kids need at least 60 minutes of daily activity and parents can ensure they get it in by letting them use
playground equipment or by taking them for hikes in the woods.
