Principals From Around the Nation to Restore Houston Schools
One-hundred hammers, shovels and principals in partnership to spruce up three Houston elementary schools
Alexandria, Va. (April 1, 2010)—Elementary and middle school principals from around the nation will be putting in sweat equity to transform three Houston schools as a part of the National Association of Elementary School Principals’ (NAESP) second annual Community Service Day during the Association’s 89th Annual Convention and Exposition. One-hundred principals will partner with some of their Houston colleagues to spruce up three Houston Independent School District schools, demonstrating their commitment to volunteerism and shaping the long-term impact of school improvement efforts. The Community Service Day is sponsored by NAESP and corporate partner Landscape Structures.
- What: 100 K-8 principals from around the nation will be volunteering at local elementary schools, installing playground equipment donated by Landscape Structures and landscaping campuses.
- Where: The community service project will take place at three schools: Dodson Elementary School (1808 Sampson Street), MacGregor Music and Science Academy (4801 La Branch Street) and Wharton Elementary School (900 West Gray Street).

NAESP’s convention, which is being held April 8-11 in Houston’s George R. Brown Convention Center, strives to provide principals with knowledge and experiences that will enrich them as education leaders and help them find new and innovative ways to lead students. In addition to the community service project, other convention highlights include a Transformational Leaders panel and keynote addresses by Christopher Gardner, Marlee Matlin, and Greg Mortenson.
