At Play for Life, you'll learn from, and have the opportunity to meet and network with the foremost authorities on inclusion, inclusive play and play across the lifespan. The symposium is designed for anyone who wants to rejuvenate the spirit of play in his or her community or work setting, and provide more opportunities for playful inclusion. So, whether you work in early childhood education or a community park and recreation department, write curriculum for children or plan travel events, you'll discover new ideas and make the contacts you need to help integrate more play into all you do.

Ingrid M. Kanics, OTR/L
is the president of Kanics Inclusive Design Services, LLC, an organization that works with communities to create and operate amazing places where all children can play together. Her work in inclusive play environments began more than 10 years ago at Center at the Creative Play in Pittsburgh, Pa. During this time, she worked with numerous communities, including more than 35 children's museums, helping them expand their understanding of Universal Design and the importance of sensory play in every child's development. She has been a member of the Landscape Structures Advisory Board since July 2009.
Jeff Burley, CTRS
Jeff Burley, CTRS
has been working and studying adaptive recreation since 1995 and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in therapeutic recreation. Jeff was originally involved in outdoor sport and recreation for individuals with disabilities which included white water rafting, snow skiing, water skiing, rock climbing, travel, challenge course design, cycling and mountaineering. In 2007 Jeff’s focus switched with a new career as the manager of adaptive programming for Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation. His focus is on creating an ADA friendly parks and recreation department that offers equal and equivalent programming for individuals with disabilities. Along with his professional career, Jeff also assists in supporting the athletic and life choices of his wife, Paralympian Muffy Davis.
Muffy Davis
Muffy Davis
is a four-time Paralympic Medalist, World Champion, US Ski and SnowBoard Hall of Fame Inductee, World Adventurer and mother. Paralyzed from a ski racing accident when she was just 16, Muffy has not let her disability slow her down or keep her from reaching her dreams. A graduate of Stanford University, Muffy has traveled the globe speaking to and teaching people about their potential and how to reach their dreams. She is a sought after motivational speaker and adventurer. Currently, Muffy is pursuing a new athletic goal, to compete in the 2012 Paralympics as a handcyclist. Of all her adventures, Muffy declares that becoming a mother and chasing her 2-year-old daughter, Elle, is by far the best and most challenging!
Billy McLaughlin
Billy McLaughlin
is recognized internationally as an innovative performer and composer who embraces the advantages of acoustic guitar amplification, unorthodox techniques and altered tunings while celebrating a gift for melody. His enormous yet fluid acoustic guitar tone has carried him around the world, to Billboard’s Top-Ten Chart and most recently through a devastating medical disorder called focal dystonia. His story is the subject of an award-winning documentary film called Changing Keys – Billy McLaughlin and the Mysteries of Dystonia. The Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (Chicago, IL) has named Billy their first Ambassador for Public Awareness and for his efforts McLaughlin has been awarded the 2010 Leadership in Public Neurology Award at the American Academy of Neurology conference held in Toronto.
John McConkey, marketing insights manager for Landscape Structures
John McConkey
serves as market insights manager at Landscape Structures. He provides more than 15 years of experience in the healthcare field, and offers a unique perspective on health, fitness and children’s play on the playground. Since 2002, John has researched and tracked societal and industry trends to help create solutions that address evolving customer needs. The main focus of his recent efforts is on playground accessibility and inclusiveness as well as sustainability.
Marnie Norris-Fisher
Marnie Norris
is the director of programs at Shane’s Inspiration, a national organization dedicated to fostering an inclusive world for children with disabilities through the design and development of Universally Accessible Playgrounds and the creation of social inclusion programs that create compassion through play. Shane’s Inspiration has designed more than 45 playgrounds and inspired over 24,000 children through play programs. For the past seven years, Marnie has facilitated inclusion on the playground between children with and without disabilities and taught hundreds of workshops in classrooms throughout Southern California and beyond. She has worked closely with communities to replicate and sustain these powerful play programs.

is the education and outreach director for Head Start Body Start National Center for Physical Development and Outdoor Play. She is also a speaker, writer and consultant known as The Grass Stain Guru, and specializes in nature and outdoor play.
Carol A. Krawczyk, ASLA
Carol A. Krawczyk, ASLA
is CEO of Research-Based Design, a landscape architectural firm in Kennett Square, Pa., that specializes in outdoor environments for children, especially children with developmental delays such as autism spectrum disorder. Carol has been working to bridge the research and practice gap by conducting research with children with autism in order to learn about environments they prefer and dislike. Additionally, she has been observing how children of all ages and abilities engage in children’s environments in order to build a design database that helps foster a sense of engagement.

Hedda Sharapan
Hedda Sharapan
is nationally recognized as an outstanding speaker. Using her warmth, humor and humanness, she helps professionals and parents continue to learn from Fred Rogers’ timeless wisdom through treasured videos and stories. Hedda holds an M.S. in child development from the University of Pittsburgh, and since 1966 worked closely with Fred Rogers on his books for children and parents, and on professional development materials for early childhood educators. As director of early childhood initiatives for the nonprofit company he founded, she is responsible for communicating about Fred Rogers’ approach to children and families in multiple ways: she writes a monthly e-newsletter; works on web materials, articles and brochures for parents, families, and professionals; and is in demand around the country as a keynoter and workshop leader at conferences for educators, parents, and religious, business and community groups.
